Land Conservation Program

Since 1994, Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy has protected more than 20,000 acres in more than 100 projects. Some of the land we help conserve falls under the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP).  The purpose of SWAP is to keep common species common.  By identifiying their habitat and protecting it, the hope is to prevent these special species from becoming endangered or threatened.  To learn more about the SWAP grant and CMLC's involvement click here

CMLC works with interested landowners throughout Henderson and Transylvania and parts of neighboring counties, including three focus areas:

  1. Chimney Rock State Park
    1. The World's Edge
    2. Read about our 2007 acquisitions for Chimney Rock State Park
  2. DuPont State Forest
    1. Read about our 2007 projects protecting land in the Upper Green River watershed
  3. Parks and Nature Preserves
    1. Florence Nature Preserve
    2. Lewis Creek Nature Park
    3. Fletcher Greenway

Once CMLC has protected a property, our stewardship staff are responsible for monitoring or managing the protected area. Read more about our stewardship program here.
